Regardless of what vehicle you get, there are always some models that may have a flaw or two that need correction, particularly if it is an urgent repair or correction that could potentially cause you or others to be harmed. When this happens, a Model Recall is issued that lets you know of the problem, but how do you know if that has happened in your model? First of all, if you own a General Motors (GM) model like Chevy or GMC and you live in or near St. Joseph, Leavenworth, or Plattsburg, know that your dealership to take care of your vehicle’s recalls, if applicable is Victory Chevrolet of Savannah.

Going back to the question of, how do you know if there has been a recall issued? Well, if there has been a recall for your GM vehicle, namely, Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, Cadillac, Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Saturn, Hummer, SAAB, you can find it at the GM Recall and Warranty Center. You can also check your vehicle by your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) for recalls on vehicles not currently in your virtual garage.

GM Recall FAQ

How Can I Tell If My Vehicle has Been Involved in a Recall?

On the GM Recall and Warranty Center Page, you’ll see a blank field that asks for your vehicle’s VIN. Simply plug your VIN into the field and tap the “Search” button. Once you have entered the VIN, the page will populate with a list of any recalls or repairs that have not been completed. Generally, GM notifies customers of affected vehicles within 60 days of the recall issue with written notice that there has been a recall for the vehicle and the reason for the recall. When GM identifies affected vehicles, they also search for vehicle VIN numbers that have been affected by the recall and that information is uploaded to the GM Recall and Warranty Center Page so that your VIN searches are registered and you have a second way of learning about any recalls.

If I Haven’t Received a Recall Notice in the Mail, is There Still a Possibility My Vehicle Has Been Recalled?

Yes, vehicle specific information that is related to recalls may not be available at the time of the announcement. However, the web site information is generally available after several days so if you believe your vehicle may be part of a recall, be sure you check the website after about a week if you do not see your vehicle listed in the recall.

Who Can I Contact if I Have Questions About a Recall?

If you have questions, it is recommended that you contact your preferred certified dealership to discuss your concerns with a member of the management team, as it will ultimately be their responsibility to provide repairs on any recalls for your vehicle. If, after initiating contact with your certified GM dealership’s management team, your concerns are not allayed, you can contact an Official Service Center.

If you believe your vehicle may be under a recall, contact us at Victory Chevrolet of Savannah with your questions or begin your search at the GM Recall and Warranty Center.
